Students wrote their name in the space at the top, then partitioned the bar model to the correct number of pieces, as well as the number line. After creating the models, they were asked questions based on their specific name. Questions include simply identifying fractions, as well as determining an equivalent fraction and comparing two fractions.

I have been working on a teaching resource that uses art to teach math and math to teach art. This video demonstrates a hands-on art project that you can use to create a beautiful design that connects to geometry and patterning, and to some degree number sense. Rotational symmetry inherently demonstrates the art principals of pattern, rhythm, and unity/harmony. Mandalas are both calm and dynamic at the same time.
