Operations With Decimals Playlet
Students will turn a word problem into a short interactive play. (This activity is based on research into word problems as part of a Master's program.) Students must use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals as part of their word problem scenario. A narrator says "Freeze" at specific moments in the play. Decimals and Powers of 10 Play
This is an engaging lesson for students to visually see the decimal move in a number because of the powers of 10.
This lesson includes a 5 page play, teacher notes, game to play after play with all the materials.
Students will start with pre-reading the play, then choosing parts and acting out the play (there are 18 parts and a whole class part so everyone will be participating!). After the play, students will be divided up into groups of 6 or more to play a game that is reinforcing the skill
