This project would be great to do with students as they are learning about how to represent ratios in various ways. Students are required to describe a ratio relating to their life, and then represent that ratio (and equivalent ratios) in 4 different ways. My students absolutely love this project, and I use it after teaching ratios and just before we get into rates. *Please contact me with any questions you may have. Copyright © 2015 RACHEL THOMPSON. Lemonade Stand Project - Unit Rates, Ratios, Statistics

In this project, students will plan real lemonade stands. Students will calculate unit rates to determine how much it will cost them to make each cup of lemonade and they will determine how much they will charge per cup of lemonade. Students will graph ratios to determine how much water, lemon juice, or lemonade powder they will use in their stands. After the lemonade stands, students will figure out which team brought in the most profit and will collect and graph the data. Note : This

Turtle Run Performance Task for Sixth Grade

Explore rates, ratios, and the distance formula. Your students will calculate the speeds, distances, and times as the turtles race down the beach. Each turtle has a different rate of speed as they move across the sand. Students will make tables and graph to show each turtle's progress. Next they'll make predictions and discuss patterns in the tables and graphs. This is a great task for sixth graders and advanced fifth graders. You may want to divide the tasks among your groups or allow eac

Using Percents and Proportions to Teach Electoral College

The question that will loom over the course of students' lifetimes: What should we do with the Electoral College? To construct a position on this question, students must objectively digest and analyze data to reveal proportionality. In this inquiry-based project, which can be done in class or self paced, students will practice converting fractions into decimals into percents. They will then compare and contrast percentages to determine if proportionality is maintained when scaling the general po
