5 Minutes Left and What Can I Do? : 100 Fun and Challenging Puzzles
Thank you for visiting this page! After 30+ years of teaching, these are my absolute favorite classroom-tested time fillers. Every teacher needs to have something ready when a planned lesson ends earlier than anticipated or the kids just need a break at the end of the period.
Some puzzles I have used over the years just do not work well; these all do. What they have in common is that they are challenging, engaging to all students, and effective problem-solving/critical thinking activities.

The games are low or no prep, many with no supplies needed and some using only one or two that you can probably find easily at school (hula hoops, carpet squares, balloons/balls).

Team-building Challenge
This is a handout for a team-building challenge. I used this with staff members and gave only the hand-out and the bag full of supplies. I also gave this to my 2nd graders with the rubberbands and strings already prepared and a few directions so that they could work together to build the tower with the cups. Murder Mystery Escape Room
This is one of my non-content escape rooms. Students will need to mainly use logical thinking to solve the puzzles. Students should be divided into teams of 3-4 to complete it in a group. There is no prep required aside from perhaps a set of scissors for each group of students. You will want to separate and print the files into two packets. Frog Pond Programing STEM: An Unplugged Coding Activity
This is a computer science STEM activity. In it students will practice programing skills without a computer. In this coding activity, students create a set of commands to move a frog across the lily pads on a small pond. Can they get across? Can they do it in as few moves as possible? This is a fun way for students to learn about and practice the skill of "sequencing."
