Classic Child Labor Expose– The Bitter Cry of the Children (1906)
This is a lesson created to teach the use of child labor in the coal mining industry of the United States during the Industrial Age through the use of primary sources. The source included is an excerpt from John Spargo's The Bitter Cry of the Children– an expose into child labor. I use this in class as part of an investigation into wage earning families of the Industrial Age. This can also be used as a stand alone lesson that can be completed independently or in groups and discussions settings.
