By naming certain emotions and linking them to specific songs or genres of music, not only is the student acknowledging certain emotions, but also gaining the understanding of possible emotional patterns. This creates a bonding moment between students that might not ordinarily see eye to eye, yet through this "Ice Breaker" style project, similarities emerge, creating unity and similarities.

This is a fun and exciting way to utilize technology and superheros to promote citizenship. Used primarily in homerooms or assemblies and roughly 20-30 minutes. Based on the show, "What would you do?" Students are taken through a variety of situations where they must make a decision. We all have the ability to be a superhero... and good citizens! This version utilizes the Kahoot website for feedback but you can use polleverwhere or a good old fashioned hand raising! When our kahoot technology fa

Drug Free Zone *RED RIBBON WEEK* Rap

K & 1 are very successful on the refrain or chorus of this song. I assigned my other grade levels to learn 1 verse each and then everyone chants (raps) together the refrain. Catchy, fun and gets the message through to kids to live drug free. It can be adapted to fit with any grade level. If you need the track to be slower, I recommend using Audacity (there's a setting to slow it down without losing pitch of the background instruments)

Diversity Guidance Lesson

You can utilize this diversity guidance lesson in the classroom , or adjust it to use it school-wide. I added a Tedex video called "What does my headscarf mean to you?". We have a high number of refugee families in our school district but you can always add a video that fits your site or classroom needs. The activity that goes along with this guidance lesson is the Iceberg activity (it is outlined in the powerpoint). Students will draw an iceberg, half above water, and the other half submerged.

This project task was created using 9th Grade Collections Unit "The Bond Between Us." I used this to introduce our unit and also to incorporate some Social-Emotional component/background context. My students enjoyed this, especially when we were in the midst of quarantine (March 2020) and a serious Corona virus outbreak in NYC. *If downloaded, please review and feel free to give suggestions/feedback!
