"Africa is NOT a Country" - Intro to Geography and Culture in Africa (SS7G4)
I recently used this lesson to introduce the geography unit for Africa in my 7th-grade class. I had my students explore the CNN article and the Ted Talk. After they read the article they answered some reflecting questions on the worksheet to guide their understanding. As a class, we later discussed some of the stereotypes that they read and their reaction towards them. Then I played the middle part of the Ted Talk and had them answer the questions to engage them. This was such a powerful lesson

Kente Cloth: Reading and Activity (Africa Culture)
I created this simple activity to help my students understand a piece of Africa's culture. We discussed how diverse Africa is and how there are many cultures in Africa. After our discussion I had my students explore Kente cloth. It was very easy and engaging for my students. I also had a few students who brought in real Kente cloth!
