This product will engage and help your students to understand how the Transatlantic Slave Trade impacted the world. Through the readings and activities, students will be able to develop their own ethical morals, interpret the influence of the slave trade, and analyze a challenging topic. This product can be used in various ways and for all types of learners.

This Product Includes:

Introduction- See, Think Wonder: Students will analyze two images of slave ship diagrams and write about what they see in the images, what they think is happening, and what the images make them wonder.

Reading Passage: Two-page passage that covers: the start of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the treatment of the enslaved on the ships, what happened once they arrived to the Americas, and the end of the slave trade.

Comprehension Questions: These questions can be answered in short responses or complete sentences. The purpose of these 15 questions is to check for reading understanding and ensuring that students gathered key information. Answer key included.

Constructed Response Questions: These 6 questions are meant to be answered in about 4-5 complete sentences. Students should use the text to pull information, but also make connections and inferences in their responses. The purpose of these questions is to help students develop a deeper understanding with the topic.

Graphic Organizer: These 3 simple organizers were created to help students organize the information. Students can fill them out as they are reading to take notes or after to check for understanding. Teacher choice on how you would like to use the organizers and what key information you want students to gather.

Image Analysis: The 3 images represent different stages of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Students will answer five probing questions that will help them to have a deeper understanding of the topic and check for comprehension.

Point of View: This activity is designed to help students develop empathy and also check for understanding. Students will write a diary entry from the perspective of three different enslaved people during their journey on the Transatlantic Trade.
