TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started teaching public education during the fall of 1987 in the field of secondary Mathematics. My students do not like assignments out of the book, so I started writing worksheets for them. (How can a teacher resist a class of smiling faces when a worksheet is handed out??) I teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry in Construction, Statistics, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite and Calculus at Okaw Valley High School. I have discovered there are not many worksheets out there for my students with puzzles and riddles, so I started making them. I think your students might enjoy these puzzles and riddles as much as mine do.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to laugh and have fun. I teach with humor. I hope my students feel comfortable in my classroom regardless of their mathematical aptitude.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have had the privilege of speaking at local, state and national math conferences on the topic of classroom games and also on the topic of Smartboard.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1988 and obtained my Masters Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1999.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live in rural Illinois with my husband and our 2 boys: ages 20 and 13. I love my family and my job. You may be wondering about my 'Associates.' They include my design team K.T. and Barbara. Also included is my editor, cheerleader and supporter: my sister Sandy. However, my hardest working Associates are my students - my proofreaders. They help by finding errors in my worksheets. 'We're Bruyn Math' is definitely a team effort!
