MY TEACHING STYLE

As an educator, my teaching style is centered around creating an engaging and empowering learning environment that puts students at the forefront of their educational journey. I believe in fostering a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential. To achieve this, I employ a variety of teaching strategies and methodologies that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. I strive to make learning interactive and experiential, incorporating hands-on activities, group discussions, and real-world applications to enhance student engagement and understanding. One aspect of my teaching style is promoting active student participation. I encourage students to take an active role in their learning process by asking thought-provoking questions, initiating discussions, and collaborating with their peers. I believe that when students actively participate in their education, they develop critical thinking skills, build confidence, and take ownership of their learning. Differentiation is another essential component of my teaching style. I recognize that every student has unique strengths, challenges, and interests. Therefore, I tailor my instruction and learning experiences to meet individual needs, providing differentiated materials, assessments, and instructional strategies. This approach allows me to support each student's growth and ensure their academic success. Building positive relationships is crucial in my teaching style. I foster a classroom community where respect, empathy, and inclusivity are promoted. I strive to know my students on a personal level, understanding their backgrounds, interests, and aspirations. By establishing strong relationships, I create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, taking risks, and embracing their individuality. Continuous assessment and feedback play a vital role in my teaching style. I believe in providing timely and constructive feedback to guide students' progress and celebrate their achievements. I use a variety of formative and summative assessments to gauge student understanding and adjust instruction accordingly. Regular communication with students, parents, and colleagues allows for collaborative support and a holistic approach to student growth. By fostering active participation, differentiation, positive relationships, and continuous assessment, I strive to ignite a passion for learning, nurture critical thinking skills, and prepare students for success in their academic journey and beyond.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

As a teacher, I reflect on my own educational journey with a sense of gratitude and resilience. Born in Mexico, I arrived in this country at the age of 7, filled with hope and a thirst for knowledge. However, my journey was not without challenges. Being an immigrant and the first in my family to pursue higher education presented numerous barriers and obstacles along the way. From the early years of adjusting to a new language and culture, to facing financial hardships, I encountered hardships that could have easily deterred my educational aspirations. However, I refused to let these circumstances define me. Instead, I embraced each challenge as an opportunity to grow and excel. Throughout my educational journey, I worked tirelessly to overcome language barriers and academic gaps. I sought out additional support, spent countless hours studying, and sought guidance from mentors who believed in my potential. Their unwavering support and belief in me gave me the confidence to push forward and defy the odds. As I progressed through my own education, I realized that my experiences as an immigrant and a first-generation graduate uniquely positioned me to understand and empathize with the struggles my students face. I recognized the importance of creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported, regardless of their background or circumstances. My journey has instilled in me a deep passion for educational equity and social justice. I am dedicated to ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, has access to quality education and the opportunity to thrive. I strive to create an inclusive curriculum that embraces diversity and promotes cultural understanding. My experiences as a student have shaped me into a teacher who is committed to fostering a sense of belonging, resilience, and empowerment in my students. I believe in their potential to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness, just as I did. I am driven by the desire to be a positive role model, mentor, and advocate for my students, inspiring them to dream big and reach for the stars. My personal educational journey, marked by perseverance and triumph over challenges, has molded me into the compassionate, determined, and dedicated teacher that I am today. I draw upon my own experiences to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment, where I can guide and inspire my students to overcome barriers and unlock their full potential.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As a mother of twin 7-year-old boys, one of whom battled leukemia for two years during the coronavirus pandemic, my journey as both a parent and a teacher took an unforeseen turn. The experience of simultaneously caring for my child and continuing my teaching responsibilities from home was undoubtedly challenging, but it also served as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation. First and foremost, this experience made me a stronger person. Witnessing my child's resilience and determination in the face of such a difficult illness inspired me to find my own strength and resilience. I learned to navigate the rollercoaster of emotions, from fear and uncertainty to hope and celebration, all while maintaining a sense of composure and stability for my family. Balancing the demands of being a mother, teacher, and caregiver required exceptional organization, time management, and adaptability. I became adept at juggling various responsibilities, seamlessly transitioning between caring for my child's medical needs and ensuring my students received the education and support they deserved. This experience taught me the value of flexibility and the importance of prioritizing tasks and responsibilities. Moreover, my role as a mother of a child with leukemia deepened my empathy and compassion as a teacher. I gained a profound understanding of the challenges faced by families dealing with health crises, and this awareness translated into a greater sensitivity toward my students' individual circumstances and needs. I became more attuned to their emotional well-being, offering support and reassurance during difficult times. The experience also enhanced my ability to foster connections and build relationships. As I navigated the virtual teaching environment, I understood the significance of fostering a sense of community and belonging. I actively sought opportunities to connect with my students and their families, creating a safe space where they could share their concerns and triumphs, just as I did with my own child's journey. Furthermore, my personal experience served as a reminder of the importance of self-care. While caring for my child and fulfilling my teaching responsibilities, I recognized the need to prioritize my own well-being. I became more intentional about carving out time for self-care, recognizing that in order to be the best mother and teacher, I needed to take care of myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. The experience of caring for my child while continuing to teach during the pandemic and his battle with leukemia tested my resilience, adaptability, and compassion. It made me a stronger person by tapping into inner reservoirs of strength and courage I never knew existed. It transformed me into a better mother, as I learned to provide unwavering support and create a nurturing environment for my child. It also made me a more compassionate and understanding teacher, allowing me to connect with my students on a deeper level and support them through their own challenges. Through this journey, I emerged as a more resilient, empathetic, and dedicated individual, both in my role as a mother and as an educator.
