TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello everyone! I have spent the last 10 years teaching special education (self-contained, multi-needs) in both the elementary and now high school setting. I absolutely love what I do, but am realizing that there is not a whole lot of life skills curriculum to meet the needs of my learners. I end of making a lot of my own materials based on what they need and their ability levels each year. I am happy to share what I have with the rest of you!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very hands-on teacher who pushes my students to be the best they can be. I promote independence and focus primarily on functional life skills. I am very organized in what I do and flexible in making changes as they occur. Working with students with special needs, it is hard to have a set curriculum to follow each year. My students are all so different in their abilities each year, that I find myself making a lot of supplements to further assist in their learning. I love my students and work hard to get them involved in the school community and functional members of society.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was chosen to present on differentiated instruction in front of my peers last year. I was also chosen to present on data collection with the cooperative that I worked for before starting at the high school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I grew up and went to high school in a suburb outside of Chicago. I got my undergrad degree in history and secondary education at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Il. I went on to get my masters as a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) from Northern Illinois University.
