Since the fall of 2017, I have had the privilege of teaching middle school social studies in the heart of the Bronx. My classroom has been a vibrant hub where history and culture converge, fostering an environment where young minds can connect with the past and understand its relevance to our present and future. In 2021, I took on the role of Social Studies Department Leader, a position that has allowed me to drive curriculum development and innovate teaching strategies within our department. My focus has been on creating engaging, inclusive content that reflects the diverse backgrounds of our students, and spearheading initiatives that emphasize critical thinking and real-world applications of historical knowledge. My commitment to educational excellence led to my appointment as a Peer Collaborative Teacher in 2022. In this capacity, I work closely with fellow educators to refine pedagogical techniques, share best practices, and foster a supportive community of professionals dedicated to the growth and success of our students. This role has been a testament to my belief in collaborative progress and the collective upliftment of our teaching practices.
As an educator deeply invested in the potential of every student, my teaching philosophy is grounded in maintaining high expectations. I am a strong proponent of a standards-aligned, data-driven approach to education. This methodology not only benchmarks progress but also ensures that each lesson is a stepping stone towards academic excellence. My teaching extends beyond the textbook to foster a comprehensive understanding of our world through the lens of history. By delving into the past, my students gain invaluable perspectives that empower them to make sense of the present and shape the future. In the classroom, this translates into dynamic lesson plans that are both rigorous and relevant. I integrate a variety of teaching techniques designed to challenge students and engage them in the material. Whether through critical analysis, collaborative projects, or immersive technology, I strive to bring history to life, making it meaningful and accessible to all learners. Ultimately, my goal is to cultivate an environment where curiosity meets capability, and every student is inspired to exceed the benchmarks set before them.
