TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been in education for 15 years teaching English Language Arts (including Pre-AP), ESL, Special Education, and Gifted and Talented. I have had the opportunity to serve as an instructional coach and mentor to colleagues and student teachers by modeling "best practice" instruction.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want students to be involved in their learning, so I thrive on creating lessons and activities to encourage student engagement. I believe there should be collaboration and movement around the classroom, so many of the activities included can be used for gallery walks, small group instruction, literacy centers/ stations, etc. My career has been at the secondary level, but I have learned many of the techniques and strategies used for the elementary grades levels can be revamped to accommodate the instructional needs of secondary level students. Overall, I want my students to make a connection, so I tend take their grade level curriculum and infuse it with various engaging instructional methods they so enjoyed at the younger grade levels.
