I use these pictures to introduce the concept of comparing and contrasting to my ELL Third Graders. It is a great way to start them with something that is very simple and use this as a springboard to gradually scaffold the level of difficulty.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for eighteen years. I am currently the Literacy Coach in an urban school district.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe teaching in "bite size pieces". This has always been my guiding principle every time I plan a lesson. From simple to complex, and from concrete to abstract. Whenever it is possible to visually represent a concept/skill, I make sure my lessons start with something that my students can see and use as their visual anchor that will help them make connections and scaffold their understanding. This teaching style has done wonders in my ELL classroom!
