TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I worked 5 years at a private school which consisted mostly of students with Dyslexia. I am now in my 19th year of teaching public school. I became a teacher after raising 5 children, some of which had learning problems.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to help the students learn for themselves. I want my students to embrace how fun learning is. If I can overcome their hesitancy and fear, then 80% of the battle is won. All of us have to be unafraid to fail. Trying and failing is better than doing nothing.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University Won Mu Alpha Theta Scholarship in High School Scholarships in College.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BFA from Sam Houston in Radio/TV/Film Teaching Certificate University of Houston, Clear Lake in Secondary Math Education, Associates from Alvin Community College in Math, Master's in Curriculum Development, University of Texas at Arlington Working on Doctorate, Walden University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I'm in my 60s with 5 grown children and 15 grandchildren. I am a life-long learner and so is my husband. He became an RN at the age of 40. I became a 'real' teacher the same year I turned 50. Several of my children have learning problems and this led me to an interest in education. So after obtaining a degree in Radio/TV/Film in 1986, I went back to school and began teaching in 1999 at a private school and as an intern. In 2008 I finished my teaching certificate for Secondary Math. I also have published 3 books!
