The Magnificent Paintbrush

I have been teaching Elementary Art in Pennsylvania for the past 14 years. I teach grades K-6 with a 650+ student population. I create a wide range of arts based resources. I am a strong believer in integration, collaboration, communication and creativity. These are the vehicles in which our students need to succeed in all areas of life. I have a fond love for recycling and getting the community involved with what we learn in the art room and within our school. Students, faculty, parents and teachers collect various recycled items to donate to our classroom to use as tools and as useful pieces to make art. I believe art is found in all aspects of life:from the cars we drive, to the clothes we wear, it surrounds us and consumes us. I like to teach my students about the lives they are living and how skills and objectives we learn in the classroom can be applied to all areas of life.

I received the ‘Outstanding Teacher Award’ for 2013-14, sponsored by the Shippensburg University School Study Council. I presented at the 2013 PA State Art Education Conference in Bethlehem, PA. I conducted a workshop on the use of Pan Pastels and designed various lessons on the use of the materials.
