I have been teaching high school social studies since 2011, and have explored with my students American and world history, legal issues, and current events. In addition to teaching, I am a technology integration specialist working closely with teachers in other disciplinary areas to help them integrate into their curriculum various technological and game-based strategies.
While I find a typical lecture an important part of content exposure, my teaching style is primarily student-centered, discussion-focused, and game-based. I am a big proponent of technology, but love to mix it up with the students and also expose them to more conventional tasks putting technology aside. I am very excited to continue creating new resources and share them with you.
Yet to be added
I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Psychology, and received my Master of Education in History Curriculum and Instruction from Gordon College in Massachusetts. Since my Master's Degree, I have taken numerous graduate level courses and other seminars in history, game-based teaching, place-based service learning and instructional technology. I have a lot of information I would love to share with my fellow educators.
Teaching empathy while simultaneously teaching social justice truly resonates with me and guides my own teaching philosophy. Although, on a personal level, I can get excited learning about anything that happened in the past, as a teacher, I seek to expose my students with more meaningful and relevant experiences. All of the lessons I create cover what happened in the past and how it shapes our present. Students are encouraged to seek their own conclusions and debate the impact of historical events on their own lives.
