I am an experienced music educator, vocalist, actress, and performance coach. I have taught students from ages 5-90 in choir, drama, and other performance arts. I currently am the director of a large middle school choir program, serving 200 6-8th grade students every year.
My passion is empowering students to change the world. I believe we have an opportunity each day to make an impact in the lives of those around us. I inspire my students to look for ways to make a difference in the world around themselves, and become the best version of "you" that they can be.
There was that one time I directed Seussical with my high schoolers. It was a long process from start to finish, 8 months. I remember Xavier, who I cast as Horton. Xavier had never been in a show before, but I believed in him. Xavier however, didn't believe in himself. Every week at rehearsal he would come up to me and say, "Mrs. Weaver, I can't do this." Every....single....week. And every single week I would say back to him, "Xavier, I believe in you. And I'm going to keep telling you that until you believe it yourself." This went on for the entire rehearsal process, and even up to opening night where, 20 minutes before the curtain, Xavier comes up to me, and says with a scared look in his eye, "Mrs. Weaver...I can't do this!" I calmly looked at him and said, again, "Xavier, I believe in you. You CAN do this." Fast forward. The curtain went up, Xavier sang his heart out and was the most amazingly heartfelt Horton you could ever dream of. Later that night, Xavier came and found me. "Mrs. Weaver?" "Yes Xavier?" He just smiled then, and said, "I did it." That is why we do this thing called teaching. For that one moment, with that one kid, where we get to be the ones to speak life into them. There is nothing like that moment in the entire world. #ITeach
