TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 10 years at an independent school. I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Biology from Manhattanville as well as a Masters of Science in Biology from New York University.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like students to explore not just the "what," but also the "why." I want them to push past "memorization" of the content and work to connect the dots between concepts. I like to utilize research in cognitive science and memory when formatting my lesson plans in order to help students develop these skills. Learning how to learn is one of the most important things that we teach! While it may be necessary to spend part of the class lecturing, most valuable learning comes from students struggling with the material and working through it. In addition to unit guides, unit objectives, and vocabulary lists for standard courses, on my page you can find activities in which students actively learn through reading and analyzing research and graphs.
