TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Cory Cromartie teaches Exploring Technology and Career Planning and Communication Technology I, II, and III at Pinellas Secondary. He has worked at Pinellas Secondary since 2002. When he started, he worked at Pinellas Technical College- St. Petersburg in the secondary program. Throughout Cory's educational career, he noticed a need. He did not have teachers that looked like him. When he started at Pinellas Secondary, he discovered he could be an underrepresented role model to a unique population of students. Here he could impact students who looked like him. Although Secondary schools have changed, Cory has remained a prominent stakeholder in the Secondary Program. Cory feels teaching is not always about content. Instead, it is more about the impact of relationships, the impact, and the intangible benefits students receive. His favorite part of teaching is impacting students and being the role model students can identify with. He gauges his success as an educator on the success of his students. He feels he has accomplished his goals when students become successful outside the classroom as better citizens, employees, and parents. His words of wisdom for new teachers "It is very difficult to be a teacher these days, but at times, it is even harder being a student. Our kids need you; they need your experience, your skill, and your support. Impact as many students as you can throughout your career, and your future will be that much brighter.
