TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started teaching at an inner city, Title I, all boys middle school in Louisville Ky in 2013, where I taught grades 6th and 8th. After 4 years I moved back home to Michigan to teach at a Title I school just outside of Detroit. I have experience working with: high and low ability students, low income, high needs, racially, and ethnically diverse students. I currently teach 7th and 8th graders.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have been thoroughly trained in Common Core State Standards, and develop all materials, projects, and assessments using them. I have made or modified all of my own materials for 7 years because I firmly believe that students learn more effectively if they're engaged. All of my materials are topical, high interest, and scaffolded for struggling students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received Highly Effective reviews from my administration in 2 different schools, 4/7 years I have been an educator.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I took the alternative certification path to education. After I graduated with a Bachelor's in English, Bachelor's in Psychology, and Minor in Women's Studies: Race, Gender, and Ethnicity from the University of Michigan, I started teaching. During my first 2 years, I received a Master's of Education certified in English 6-12 from the University of Louisville. Recently, I earned an additional certification to teach English as a Second Language from Wayne State University.
