I have been teaching for 11 years now in a variety of roles and locations including China, Uganda, a First Nations community, an Islamic school, a charter school, Christian schools, and public schools in two provinces. I have worked as a homeroom teacher and also as a substitute teacher. I have taught all grades from JK - 12, but most of my experience has been teaching grade 7 & 8.
My priority is to create a strong classroom community that promotes respect, individuality, confidence, leadership, empathy, and love among my students. My goal is for each of my students to feel safe, appreciated and cared for by everyone in our class. I believe each of my students has a unique set of skills and abilities and I try to encourage them to discover these skills and abilities in both themselves, as well as, each other. I try to create lessons and opportunities that foster the development of these skills and abilities and to help my students discover that each and every one of them has worth, strength and purpose and that their uniqueness should be celebrated. I teach in a way that invites students to actively engage in the learning process. I encourage critical thinking and self-assessment and these form the basis of my lessons. I want my time with my students to be a year of foundation laying and of new adventures.
