At age 26, I wrote in a cover letter, "I'll be teaching for the next 25 years." With the exception of a short break to stay home with my twins, I've kept my promise. I have five years to go, but who knows? Maybe I'll just teach forever.
A comedienne in a former life, I'm lively and spontaneous in the classroom. I love kids, and my favorite sound in the world (next to the voices of my own soon-to-be-college-bound babies) is the collective gasp of realization that happens when--all of a sudden--my students understand something they've been wondering about and I've been teaching.
I don't believe I've ever been a part of a system that singled teachers out for significant honors and awards. I have, however, been "honored" by consistently excellent appraisals and by constantly seeing light bulbs go off above students' heads--and even by parents of former students attempting to recruit me to new schools or by principals keeping me on the phone because they wanted to talk me into joining their staffs. Teaching is more than a career choice for me: It is a lifestyle and a passion. I've repeatedly been "awarded" leadership positions and committee appointments of all kinds. My favorite of these is being asked to mentor new teachers.

A teacher in an outstanding (according to Newsweek) charter school in North Austin, I work with a very diverse population. Because the students and I work hard and have a "We're all in this together" attitude, we are extremely successful. I love teaching my kids! When I am not in the classroom or sitting in a recliner developing products for TPT, I am reading, sailing or camping with my beautiful little family. (The twins leave for college in 2016, so your purchases are supporting their dreams, and I thank you.)
