I did my student teaching in Oklahoma with little firsties then moved to Texas where I substituted for two years in a variety of settings. I was blessed with a second grade teaching position at my favorite school I substituted for. Two years later I'm still there teaching second graders! This year I get to teach math and science while my partner teaches reading and writing. I LOVE IT!
I guess you could say that my teaching style is very HANDS-ON. I like teaching where I facilitate learning as my kiddos experience it themselves. I make math reviews for every week so that I can pull small groups the following week for small group instruction to help fill those gaps. It is a bit of work but well worth the reward! As for science I make sure that my students get at least one science experiment per week.

I graduated from The University of Oklahoma in December of 2010, then did my student teaching with first grade students in the Spring of 2011. I moved to Texas after I married my husband and started substituting. I substituted for two years in a variety of classrooms, mostly long term- special education- PPCD, push-in/pull-out instructor, and first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Currently I am teaching second grade- math and science- at the school I loved most while I was substituting.
My name is Megan Engels and I am a 2nd grade teacher. After graduating in December of 2010, I did my student teaching in Oklahoma with little first graders. My sweet husband and I got married that summer then a great job offer for him moved us to Houston, Texas. Fresh out of college I had a pretty tough time getting a teaching job so I started substituting! This turned out to be longer term than I would have liked it to be- 2 whole years! I do think that that time substituting made me a much stronger teacher. I got to be in a lot of different classrooms and work with a lot of amazing students and teachers. Through subbing I found my beloved school where I have been teaching second grade for two years. 2 years long term subbing plus 2 years of teaching second grade- that counts as 4 right?!? Kind of?
