I was extremely frustrated by the size of the grade books out there. It seemed like all of them had itty bitty writing spots. Needless to say I created my own! I hope you enjoy. I highlight each assignment as I enter them into my online grade book.

Every week my students have a math review covering the topics we have learned that week. This guides my small group instruction the following week. This review covers halves, fourths, and eighths. They have to partition shapes into equal parts.

Are you a fan of task cards too??? I love using them because they get my kids up and out of their seats but still actively working on math. These task cards come with directions and a recording sheet so that you have lots of ways to use this. I

I have always loved those print, laminate, and use math stations. I decided to make my own! These fall themed math stations are great for reviewing basic math skills that my second graders need. Some skills they cover: even/odd ordering

These are to use with Avery print labels 8160. They say "Hope your birthday is the best HANDS DOWN!" I attach it to a little gift bag for my students with a sticky hand in it (and a birthday pencil, etc.). Just something a little different. Enjoy!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I did my student teaching in Oklahoma with little firsties then moved to Texas where I substituted for two years in a variety of settings. I was blessed with a second grade teaching position at my favorite school I substituted for. Two years later I'm still there teaching second graders! This year I get to teach math and science while my partner teaches reading and writing. I LOVE IT!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I guess you could say that my teaching style is very HANDS-ON. I like teaching where I facilitate learning as my kiddos experience it themselves. I make math reviews for every week so that I can pull small groups the following week for small group instruction to help fill those gaps. It is a bit of work but well worth the reward! As for science I make sure that my students get at least one science experiment per week.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from The University of Oklahoma in December of 2010, then did my student teaching with first grade students in the Spring of 2011. I moved to Texas after I married my husband and started substituting. I substituted for two years in a variety of classrooms, mostly long term- special education- PPCD, push-in/pull-out instructor, and first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Currently I am teaching second grade- math and science- at the school I loved most while I was substituting.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My name is Megan Engels and I am a 2nd grade teacher. After graduating in December of 2010, I did my student teaching in Oklahoma with little first graders. My sweet husband and I got married that summer then a great job offer for him moved us to Houston, Texas. Fresh out of college I had a pretty tough time getting a teaching job so I started substituting! This turned out to be longer term than I would have liked it to be- 2 whole years! I do think that that time substituting made me a much stronger teacher. I got to be in a lot of different classrooms and work with a lot of amazing students and teachers. Through subbing I found my beloved school where I have been teaching second grade for two years. 2 years long term subbing plus 2 years of teaching second grade- that counts as 4 right?!? Kind of?
