I have been a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher at the high school level for 8 years. I am the primary teacher for all 4 courses in the Teaching As a Profession (TAP) program, but I also regularly teach Family Studies and Personal Finance.
Many of my lessons take a constructivist approach where students take ownership of their learning, and I take the role of a facilitator rather than the primary source of knowledge. Project-based learning with both independent and group research is a norm, and students typically demonstrate knowledge through the creation of visuals, presentations, and extensive writing rather than worksheets and quizzes.
