TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 20th year teaching high school math (my passion) and 17 years as yearbook adviser. I have taught all levels of mathematics, including inclusion, honors, gifted, AP, IB, dual enrollment, and BCC (bilingual content curriculum). I am a National Board Certified Teacher, just newly renewed for another 10 years, have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a double minor in psychology and secondary education, a Master’s in TESOL and a Specialist Degree in Mathematics Education. I love what I do and am excited about the opportunity to share my experiences and resources with other teachers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Anything that will capture my student’s attention, engage them in relevant and challenging problem-solving, and aids retention of concepts learned. I love to make teaching fun but rigorous at the same time.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In 2012, I was named my high school’s Teacher of the Year. In 2008, I was named my County’s Journalism Teacher of the Year. I currently sponsor the Quill and Scroll Journalism Honor Society. I used to sponsor Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honor Society, for three years. I am also the Communication Arts, Film and Digital Media Academy Leader. I have received thousands of dollars in grants and educational resources for my classroom from websites such as donorschoose.org and The Education Fund’s Teach-a-Thon.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended the University of Miami for my Bachelor's, Master's and Specialist Degrees. I travelled to England the summer of 2000 to study English Literature at Oxford University (Exeter College).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I served for over 15 years as a mentor for beginning teachers and have held professional development workshops on family involvement, differentiated instruction, mathematics best practices, among others.
