Over 10 years teaching diverse groups on the elementary, middle, high school, and college levels. Washington, DC to New York City
My teaching style is as a Facilitator. Teachers who have a facilitator model teaching style tend to focus on activities. This teaching style emphasizes student-centered learning and there is much more responsibility placed on the students to take the initiative for meeting the demands of various learning tasks. This type of teaching style works best for students who are comfortable with independent learning and who can actively participate and collaborate with other students. Teachers typically design group activities which necessitate active learning, student-to-student collaboration and problem solving. This type of teacher will often try to design learning situations and activities that require student processing and application of course content in creative and original ways.
My first school was a high school in an urban area in Northeast, Washington, DC. Since then I have seen my former students not only become adults, but graduate from college, have children, and pursue their dreams and careers! My shining moment occurs every time I see them doing something positive and productive. I remember the rush of anticipation and anxiety I felt helping them write and prepare essays and applications for the Bill & Melinda Gates scholarships that they were awarded. Remembering teaching them AP Literature and AP Composition also makes me smile when I think of how far they have come :0)

I like teaching and purple. Sometimes I hate teaching and dislike purple; preferring green. I have respect for teachers who are working day in and out to make a difference. I just want to be a support to teachers - friends ask me to help them plan their lessons or for advice about problems on the job very frequently.
