TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm a high school teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience. As a Social Science/Social Studies teacher, I've taught a lot of different courses such as History, Civics, Law, World Religions, Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology, Managing Personal Resources, and Careers. I have been a classroom teacher, department head, student success teacher, and guidance counselor. Some of my best experiences have come from being a guidance counselor and seeing the other side of life for many students. It has definitely made me a more compassionate teacher. I started my career in Ontario, Canada so many of my resources reflect the Ontario Secondary curriculum. We've moved around a lot in the past 6 years. I spent some time teaching in Saskatchewan, Canada before we moved down to Indiana, USA. At the beginning of 2019 we relocated to Hong Kong for my husband's work. I'm looking forward to exploring this wonderful new place and teaching at an International School here.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Even though I've been teaching for many years, I think my teaching style is something that is dynamic - always changing. It depends on the grade level and types of students that are in front of me. My classes are always quite structured but I like to make learning fun and do different things each day. Students know that I have high expectations of them but they also know that I believe in them and will work with them to achieve success. One of the ways that students in my class can have some fun and be successful is that I often give choices as to how they complete assignments. I enjoy planning courses and creating engaging activities that will benefit all students. These are the ideas and activities I hope to be able to share with all the other teachers out there!
