TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started teaching in 1989. I have experience in grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, but have been a 4th grade teacher the longest; that is where my heart is. I have seen A LOT of changes in education, but one thing has remained the same: children need their teachers to care about them, to engage them, and to make connections to each one of them.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in empowering kids to love learning through rigorous yet fun lessons and learning experiences. I love when they are so engaged they don't even realize they're working and learning! Questions and comments are encouraged in my classroom, and the students work on developing perseverance to solve problems and find solutions on their own and with groups. I believe in providing structure, a well-defined classroom management system, and in giving lots of on-going constructive feedback on student work and doing it with a loving heart.
