I've been involved with music education in some capacity or another since around 2002, which is when I first started giving piano lessons. Since that time, I have continued to work with many piano students, hand-bell ensembles, choirs, and have directed music programs. I am currently working as a K-4 elementary music teacher in the Perry Public Elementary School. I've had the pleasure of teaching since 2008.
I always try to create a musical environment that is fun and exciting for my students. I want them to learn through an interactive process of movement and play and discovery. My goal is to differentiate instruction according to each student's specific learning needs so each student is engaged and learning! I tend to align my teaching style primarily with the Music Learning Theory method to music education, but I also incorporate elements from other teaching approaches/methodologies as well.
Spending time with my kids every day when I come home!
I completed my undergraduate degree in K-12 Music Education at Michigan State University (Go MSU!). After graduating, I continued my schooling and earned my certifications in Early Childhood Music (Level 1) and Elementary General Music (Level 1) from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning (GIML). I recently completed my Masters in Reading degree from Spring Arbor University, and am certified as a K-12 reading specialist.
