TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching mathematics since 1990. I began teaching on native American reservations and then spent 14 years in a small rural area where the poverty rate was very high and the district was 100% free and reduced lunch. During those 14 years, I spent nine of them as the computer network administrator while also teaching computer technology to high school students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

For Mathematics, I am very "old school." I have watched over the years, and this includes when I was in school, as different methodologies or curricula would "come down the pike." It seems to be about every ten years or so. They seem to wonder why what they are currently trying isn't working. Maybe the basics of memorization and training ought to be the focus in the early years.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I spent K-6 in a public school and was pretty board most of the time. The middle school came to give us a math test and on that test were integer problems. I had never seem them. This did not make me very happy as I know I could have, and should have, known what to do. I went to a very rigorous private school from 7 through 12. I graduated with AP Chemistry, AP BC Physics and AP BC Calculus. My scores on those exams earned me 11 hours of college credit. I went on to college to earn a BS in Mathematics. I have secondary endorsements in Math, Science and Information Technology.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
