After spending years working for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a Marine Biologist and then managing a university's Molecular Core Facility, I transitioned to teaching at a small private school in Maryland. During my time in research, I was the one who would volunteer to mentor an undergraduate or talk to a class group coming through. I realized that while I enjoyed my work in the lab, I wanted something more. It is often stated that teachers have profound impacts on their students, but in the nearly 10 years I have been in the classroom I can honestly say each of my students has had a wonderful impact on me.
My teaching style is animated and interactive. I believe that students need to understand the fundamentals first and then directly apply what they have learned. I enjoy integrating technology into my classroom and coming up with fun and interesting ways to explore new ideas.
