In my classroom, my students know that everything has a purpose, especially them. Each year, I invite speakers to come and share their area of expertise. We have learned from restaurant managers, wildlife managers, plastics manufacturers, chefs, air conditioning and heating professionals, agricultural and landscape professionals, geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, architects, forensic scientists, shoe salesmen, builders, chemists, farmers, accountants, website designers, mechanics, and microbiologists! This program has enriched the learning of my students in such an unimaginable way! My students now have practical applications of why they are learning specific skills. When they meet people from their community who use the math skills that they are learning in my class, they can converse with them in meaningful conversation. My students have a thirst for knowledge that far surpasses their peers. There is agoal for them in sight. I started this community program 5 years ago, and each year, the results grow exponentially. The eagerness I feel when I get ready to contact these community businesses is much like my students coming into my classroom on the first day of school. This has to be what I feel is my greatest accomplishment so far in my career. I bubble with excitement to see a bacteria sample, the inside of a car door, or a drafted plan of a new school, as do my students! When they see professionals who are passionate about their jobs, I see an interest in them come alive. The conversations they have with these speakers are entirely different than those they have with me.

My husband and I married in June of 2006, had our son, Alan, in June 2010, had our daughter, Anne Marie, in April of 2012, and just welcomed my second son, Alexander, in March 2016. They have changed my heart and our lives forever. I will strive to treat every one my students as I would want their teachers to treat them. They are my life just as your children are yours. You can read more about my family here. I love to read and listen to music. My husband and I love to spend our time together cooking and spending time with the kids.
