TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am an 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher and team leader in an urban school district where I have taught at the same middle school for 15 years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is the "Coach Approach," which uses a student-centered approach with standards-based learning. After a quick coaching session, or mini-lesson on a particular skill or strategy, students work independently or a cooperative learning group on a related assignment, as the teacher monitors and coaches students through the process of mastering the standard.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have served as Teacher of the Year and received a Community Star Award for contributions at my school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned a dual Bachelor of Arts Degree in English-Journalism from Lincoln University (PA) and Temple University (PA) in 1992.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As a career switcher, a value creating and sharing strategies I have developed while working with a diverse population of 8th grade students, both those who receive special education and/or gifted services.
