I have been teaching French for 4 years at the high school level and 13 years at the middle school level.
Learning should be interactive. While students do have to memorize and sometimes learning is not "fun", teachers need to find a way to hook students and draw them in so that the engaging activities provide the context and reason for students to understand the necessity of work they consider more dull.
