TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching for over 20 years and have taught 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th grade English Language Arts, Academic Intervention Services and Creative Writing. I have my Bachelor's in English Education and my Master's in English Education as well. I've taught American Literature and World Literature. Most of my units are Common Core aligned, in that the texts taught are rigorous and the assignments encourage critical thinking and sophisticated writing. My approach is to provide a solid foundation and build up to analysis. My classroom is rooted in Restorative Practices and we often use Academic Peace Circles to learn new material, review for assessments and discuss literature.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Experiential, student-centered, with a focus on both content and skill.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Presented to many districts on how to successfully use Academic Peace Circles in a classroom setting, especially at the High School level. Our school was recently awarded the Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BS from LSU, MS from SUNY Trained in Peace Circles and Restorative Practices that fall under the Social Justice umbrella.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Every lesson and activity has been used successfully in my classroom. I only share lessons that I know students will respond positively to and that teachers find helpful for teaching skill and encouraging thought.
