I am currently enjoying my 14th year as an ELA teacher. I have three years experience in 6th and 8th grade ELA. The rest of my time in the classroom have been spent teaching 9th, 10th, and 11th grade literature. I have been in my current position for four and a half years. My students are incarcerated juveniles. Because our population is small, I teach grades 8-12 in one classroom. You can best believe that classroom management, differentiation, and multitasking are three of my specialties
I am a loving teacher who is a firm taskmaster at the same time. My students do not go home to their families at night. Many times, I am looked at as a mother figure by my students. Many have emotional and behavioral disabilities that significantly impact their performance in class. This causes me to have to be very creative in class in the areas of rewards and costs. I have found that consistency is key, although recognizing each student's individual needs is paramount as well.
I have yet to receive any awards or honors, although I feel that I am deserving.
