Starting this school year (2013-2014), I have been teaching for 8 years. I have had many unique experiences while teaching in a high school that all include the blessings that make our job our passion: the students. I have taught in three high schools, one of which is an online high school. I am eager to learn new things about myself and about teaching and hope to grow in this wonderful profession each and every year. I have spent 6 of the past 8 years teaching Honors 9th and 10th grade (Pre-AP), so many of my activities may be higher-level.
I am a teacher that strives to be student-centered. I believe that I could stand in front of the class and lecture on something that I deem to be important, but that may not resonate with the students. As a teacher, it is my job to differentiate my instruction to fit the needs of the students in front of me. I enjoy running my classroom with group-oriented activities, discussions, debates, technologies, etc. to make sure we are covering all aspects of the brain.
I was chosen as the teacher of the year by a student who was awarded the Coca Cola Scholarship. Elected by my administration to head a committee called the Renaissance Program. I had the opportunity to travel to Orlando, FL to be nationally trained.
Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English from Arizona State University. Master of Education in Educational Leadership (Administration) from Northern Arizona University.
I currently live in a town roughly 45 minutes outside of Phoenix, AZ. I have a 2 year old son, two dogs, and one cat. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and are enjoying our new roles as parents. My lifelong dream has been to start/run my own animal rescue and fostering program. Possibly in retirement, I will be busy with this dream.
