Hello, my name is Dyann Simone and I am addicted to teaching. I have been a special education teacher for over 25 years and I wouldn't change my occupation for the world. I have taught students ranging in age from 2 years old through 12 years old, I have worked in the capacity as a Child Developmental Specialist (providing early intervention services), self-contained teacher for MD and LLD students grades K-7, and as a resource teacher for students grades K-5. When I look at my students, I don't see a disability, I see promise and hope. I encourage them to succeed and reach their true potential. My greatest experience has been working with children that qualify for early intervention services and those students that fall within the Autism Spectrum Disorder. It was my experience as an early intervention provider and a Kindergarten-1st grade special education teacher that inspired me to create the SDS. More recently, as the Anti-Bullying Specialist for my school, I have been creating artwork that promotes a positive culture and climate while ensuring a Bully Free School Zone and a safe learning environment.
I teach with an iron fist in a velvet glove. I certainly can't take credit for these words but when I heard the phrase many years ago...they resounded with me, It is the best way to explain my teaching style.
