TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My experience includes classroom teaching Pre-K through 8th grade. I directed and taught in a media center/library while developing fresh learning strategies. I also developed learning environments on the Pre-school level as a director and the K-8 environment by working on a building committee for school district schools. I also trained teachers on the Illinois Early Learning Standards for use in preschools and day care. I developed and lead teacher training workshops at the community college. My broad experience has given me an awareness of how the various parts of education fit together.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Friendly, exciting experience based learning I work to develop a authentic communication format where students and teachers engage in questioning, exploring and developing understanding and skill in a subject area. I like taking learning into the real world to develop an understanding of how what is being learned matters. I guess I could sum it up to active engagement.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Joy of being involved in the lives of many children. Recipient of grant from the Japanese Consulate for my school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education at Wayne State University in Michigan with a minor in fine arts. Masters Degree in Elementary Education at University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana. Masters Degree in Child Development at Erikson Institute in Chicago.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live with my husband, a grandson, a dog, and bird in a house by a lake. I love the outdoors and the people in my community. I served on the local school board for14 years and saw the district move to top rating in the county during that time. I organized and developed a shelter plan for the homeless in my county. It has sheltered and feed over 300,000 nights. I have seven other grandchildren and have watched many students grow into great people. I've written, illustrated and published a children's book, An Ant Went Marching One Fine Day. It was fun.
