I have eight years of experience at one school, teaching Junior High and High School classes. For eight years, I taught 10th and 12th grade English and 8th Grade Reading. I also taught 7th Grade Reading for four years. I taught 9th grade English and Drama for one semester each. I taught 11th grade English during student teaching. Over the last seven years, I have been at a larger school, working with a team of sophomore teachers! I have been teaching for 15 years total!
All my products were created for my classes, but my classes are not unique. Many of us have to teach students with a range of abilities. Some of my students have learning disabilities and IEPs, while others can process information as well as a college student. My products are designed so slower learners and quicker learners can all get something out of the material we cover in class. I started this store as a project to take my teaching to a higher level by raising my standards and getting feedback from other teachers. Since starting my store and working harder on my material to satisfy buyers, I have noticed an incredible increase in standardized test scores (see below). I also started this store to help other teachers by saving them time. I will never forget my first years of teaching and the time it took to create materials for my 5 different preps. Let me help you hang on to your sanity, whether you are a teacher or home school parent.
I have given a state-mandated standardized English test for the past 8 years to my sophomore classes. My highest rate of students passing was an 88%, while my lowest rate of passing was a 73%. I have a variety of students in a rural area, and these scores are considered very good! We are routinely at or above average in our state. Spring 2014 scores: 86% passing! Spring 2015 scores: 88% passing!! This is the highest we've ever gotten! Spring 2016 scores: 85% passing! Spring 2017 scores: 82% passing!
I have a Bachelor of Science in Education from a university historically known as a "teacher college." I have a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from another teacher college. I have mentored two teachers, and recently served as president of our local teacher organization. I have written and received two grants for my classroom. I have written three sets of curriculum to adhere to Common Core. I rewrote curriculum to adapt to the Missouri Learning Standards as well.
Most of the products on my site are used in my classroom. Some have been used every single year I have been teaching and have been revamped every year! As of Summer 2014, I finished rewriting curriculum for my classes to adapt to Common Core, and then in 2017, the Missouri Learning Standards. All of my products have been reworked to align with Common Core and similar standards, and the lessons have been created using DOK terminology to ensure higher levels of thinking. Please contact me at MrsNick2004@outlook.com if you have any lesson plan suggestions for me!
