I am a public school teacher in the state of Nevada with 23 years experience in grades kinder, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I currently teach a combined 3/4/5 class in an accelerated program for gifted students.
I believe students learn best in cooperative groups. Many of my lessons are based on team and partner activities. I also have a firm belief in Problem-Based Learning. Much of my teaching focuses on the core components of PBL.
I was 2005 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. I also received a Congressional award for excellence in the classroom. However, these awards do not compare to the letters I receive from former students telling me about how they are doing and how I have impacted their lives. Those are the true awards.
I attended both private and public school growing up. I graduated in the top 1% of my class. I went on to get two BA from UNLV in history and English before getting my Masters in education. In the last five years, I received my endorsement in literacy as well as gifted education.
I live in the state of Nevada with my wonderful husband and two beautiful boys who inspire me to be the best I can be.
