I have been teaching public school art since 2014. I've taught Pre-K thru 8th grade students with various needs from a wide variety of demographics exploring different medias and subject matter. I've worked in Gifted and Talented schools, Title 1 schools, affluent suburban schools, rural and urban. Most of my experience is with middle school aged students (yes, I'm one of those "kooky" teachers that love middle schoolers). My favorite lessons to teach include value drawings, acrylic paintings with color theory, ceramic vessels, and compositional photography. I have a true passion for being an art educator and love going into my classroom everyone to see the creativity of my students!
High quality, authentic art education is a right for all. Learning through meaningful art-making is a way for students to discover their identities, connect with history, and relate to both local and global communities. Through my mantra of “Love Yourself, Love Art, and Love Learning”, my enthusiasm for visual arts education translates into a student centered, inclusive studio space, nurturing their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative growth via equitable, personalized, and meaningful art-making experiences. Utilizing various educational technologies, I will provide culturally relevant, interdisciplinary lessons that allow student autonomy, challenging students to think for themselves, problem-solve and take artistic risks to "boost" them to the "next level". Learners taking my courses will develop a broader knowledge of art in the world around us, ultimately gaining a greater appreciation for creative expression.
