I participated in a yearlong internship teaching 4th and 5th grade math and science then moved on to teach 6th and 7th grade Social Studies with a year of teaching 6th grade math as well. I taught 6th and 7th grade World Cultures class by creating my own curriculum and by using Indiana ELA Standards and some Social Studies standards. I now teach 8th grade ELA with a focus on U.S. History.
I have never thought of students as "test taking robots." Each student is unique, learning and understanding at their own pace and in their own way. I believe that forming relationships with my students is the key to success in the classroom. I like to incorporate a lot of partner and group activities into my lessons while keeping lecturing and the focus on me to a minimum, although sometimes I know it is necessary. I actively scaffold as students are learning independently or with each other. My students do have laptops, so incorporating technology is common practice. I think of myself as a laid back teacher, but not unstructured. My goal is for my students to put their knowledge into their own hands.I learn as much from them as I hope they do from me!

I graduated with a B.S. in Teaching and Learning from Union University. That degree earned me a Teaching License in Elementary Education (K-8) with Middle School and 7-12 History, and English Language Arts Endorsements.
I am passionate about teaching future generations, particularly in the area of Social Studies and World Cultures. As we become more and more connected to information and people all over the world, it has become more and more important for the youth of today to develop empathy and a knowledge of what makes the world go round. Why do people do the things they do? Say the things they say? It is my goal to instill an understanding attitude of others in my students.
