Teaching Artist - Music Educator - Composer. That's me in a Nutshell. For over 20 years, I taught music in classrooms throughout California and brought the joy of music to children. I also had the opportunity to serve as program director for several music education organizations. As a music educator, my goal now is to provide fun filled and content rich music lesson plans that ANYONE can use - classroom teachers, parents and music teachers. In some cases, they are connected to other curriculum areas.
When I was teaching music in the schools, many of the children called Mr. Hector and I loved it! My teaching style included giving children hands on experience with simple percussion instruments, opportunities to sing, and lots of movement. You'll find that many of the activities I've created do the same thing. Very fun and very engaging.
As a composer working in arts education, my work has received support from the NEA, Meet the Composer, and others. I have served on the San Francisco Arts Education Master Plan, asked to speak at the Music in Education National Consortium, and other venues.
