I developed this to use when helping students transition back to the regular classroom after ISS or Alternative School Placement. This helped students know what was expected and it helped administrators know the parameters for their release.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 12 years. I started out teaching Physical Education and Health in a secondary setting. Later, I finished my Masters in Special Education, and therefore, taught SPE for 6 years. In 2014, I took the Praxis to teacher middle school math, which is my current subject. I am an ARI trained reading teacher and I am currently participating in the A+ College Ready Program in Alabama. I have taught in various settings and I have a very diverse background as far as school settings/climates. I have always taught in a Title 1 school setting. My main focus with mys students is to meet them where they are and build them up from there. I seek out and make many materials for my students that will give a background knowledge before tackling the lesson without adding too much work for myself or for them.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very hands on teacher. I prefer small groups and technology is used in my classroom when available. I prefer to have my room st up in groups so that I can target the areas of need through a seating arrangement. I use data to drive my classroom decisions in regards to seating. I feel as though the data should drive those decisions and that you should use the data to help facilitate a better working environment for the students and for yourself as the teacher. I build my homework sheets based off the back-build method. For the most part, I create homework where success can be achieved but struggles are going to happen. It is part of the process of learning. I do not count homework as a huge percentage of a final grade, though I do grade it every day with teh help of technology tools, this process is much easier. A typical class in my room starts with introduction to the lesson. From there, I give about a 15 minute presentation, then we move on to solving some problems as a group and creating questions that we feel are important into the math investigation. Then we wrap up the lesson with a quick 15 minute wrap up. My classes are roughly 60 minutes long. I have also taught in a school that was one to one initiative with Mastery Learning as the focus. In that setting, I taught 5 small group lessons per period each day. So I had to develop quick mini lessons and use technology to help deliver those lessons. Then I did Q & A with my students to target specific areas. Also, we did a lot of PBL and I was very please with how my students responded. I created a spiral review of the state mandated assessment that allowed my students to have review each week during the spring semester. It was not over whelming but it did target some areas of weakness as presented by the data.
