TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I teach in Western Australia, Australia. My first teaching position was in the Kimberley and the students were Aboriginal. I developed my style here and found out how to teach under any circumstances. After my time in the Kimberley I moved to Perth where I taught in the north metro area. This was a time to refine my teaching skills. I am now still in the north metro area at a small school where I teach a 1 and 2 split class. My plans for the future are to develop future teachers in a mentor role. I also have a special interest in technology in education, behaviour/classroom management and successful development of Individual Education Plans.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom is, and always will be, a noisy space. Students work in a variety of groups based on ability, like backgrounds, gender, age and friendships. Students always have the opportunities to practise and perfect their skills and knowledge. Each student is recognised for their own abilities and their role as part of the team. Students also get time to work independently. Classroom and behaviour management is at the forefront when keeping my noisy class on task. Students receive academic, citizenship and endeavour awards, never prizes or toys. Students are encouraged to be the best student they can be and to see and encourage the best in others.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I was educated in a small coastal town in New South Wales, Australia. I had many teachers in primary school who inspired me to do my best and I achieved great academic and civic results. In high school I lost motivation and this could be attributed to my lake of independence and courage to try and to fail. I completed my teaching degree at Edith Cowan University after a sea change from east to west. I have remained in WA since my university years.
