Hi! I'm Mrs. Wallace (formerly Miss C). This is my second year teaching 8th grade, after moving from my beloved 6th graders. Though I've worked with kindergarten classrooms and assisted in collegiate ESOL classes, before fulfilling my lifelong dream of teaching, I worked a variety of jobs, including patent legal assistant, sandwich and salad artist, grocery clerk, hostess, ice cream scooper, SAT tutor, Shakespearean actress, and digital media manager.
Interdisciplinary, eccentric, and innovative. On any given day, I might be teaching Shakespeare through use of rap or hip-hop, or using '60s protest songs to analyze theme and central idea. Now, more than ever, engaging students is crucial, especially as classes pivot to online learning. I hope my lesson plans help hold student interest :)
I am the current Teacher of the Year at my school! So there's a silver lining for 2020, I guess. I have won numerous awards for my creative writing and public speaking skills, including placing or winning in the Nile Foundation Cultural Essay Contest, the Black History Month Middle School Essay Contest, the Modern Woodmen of America School Speech Contest (1st in the nation), the Earl K. Wood Scholarship, the University of Florida International Center for Study Abroad Scholarship, and others. My poetry has been published in Tea Literary Magazine and Florida Best Emerging Poet's Anthology. My short stories, "Mara's Wake" and "Tamarisk and Taran", and my Fable, "Aurora", was also recently published by Z Publishing House. I hope to one day publish some of my children's books that I work on in my free time. But the awards I'm proudest of are the scholarships I help my students get <3
I graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in English, and minors in History and Horticulture, in 2014. I studied abroad at the University of Cambridge during the summer of 2013.
My hobbies are canoeing, reading, trying new cuisines, piano, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, exploring new springs or parks, book collecting, writing, and watching BBC shows.
