TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an elementary school teacher for 11 years. Before that, while earning my Masters in Education I was a substitute for three years. While I was a substitute I was able to encounter a variety of different classrooms and had three long term positions. All of my teaching positions have introduced my strategies, techniques, experiences, activities and more that have all helped me to become the classroom teacher I am today.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have to say when I was in elementary school I loved school. All of my teachers were fantastic and I adored them. They had a huge impact on my life. Until one year, I got a little older and I had a teacher who I felt made my life hell. I felt picked on, singled out, and miserable. After that I hated school. I actually hated it so much that in high school I never even thought of the consequences of not showing up and not doing my work. Needless to say, I almost didn't graduate. I didn't realize how important a good education was. Luckily, I woke up and decided to go to college about 2 years after high school. (also after I was married and had a child, yes I was young) Obviously, with my grades I attended a community college first. I took my education seriously got great grades, went on to get my masters. My son grew up watching his mother go to school, work on homework, become a teacher and grade homework. So, he grew up knowing how important school is. Now I have a class of my own, and I try to make sure that no child ever leaves my class feeling miserable like I did. I want them all to love school! And so far it appears to be working out. Oh, and btw my son did great in school and is now a junior at University of Iowa and thanks to his good grades in HS (and me a single mom now, not making a ton of money) he gets his entire education paid for through scholarships and grants. ;)
