TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have over 15 years of experience in the high school English classroom in both public and private schools. I have taught 9th through 12th grades from regular to honors to AP levels. The focus of my career has been on interdisciplinary teaching with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) environments where the Humanities programs are strongly connected to scientific process and skills as well as connections between the English and history classrooms.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that a good teacher is a good learner—of her students and the worlds in which they will inhabit. In order to support students in developing skills of strong reading, analysis, and writing through the study of literature, I employ a variety of methods in my lessons. Often, my lessons include movement, use of color and design, small group and full class discussion, and simulation. In teaching writing, I emphasize student choice of topic as well as a process approach, so that student writers maintain control over their writing while benefiting from a revision process.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

As one of many AP Lang teachers in my school, my students consistently performed at the top of the average for all seven years I taught the course. I have to think my students and I were doing something right!
